#181 already pushes instrument params each block, so drop the duplicate
apply_instrument_params. Import Session Data now brings a Sampler's sample
along and remaps its source id.

wgpu's default DX12 compiler (Auto) loads whichever dxcompiler.dll the DLL
search path finds. SoundCraft ships none, and without a matching dxil.dll the
unsigned-DXIL warning fails wgpu's indirect-validation pipeline, the device
is lost and the app exits before the first frame. Pin the compiler to FXC,
which is part of Windows; WGPU_DX12_COMPILER still overrides it.

- Pinch and Cmd+scroll zoom the timeline around the pointer. egui 0.36 turns
both into zoom_delta, so the old Cmd+scroll branch never ran; Shift+wheel
pans sideways again for the same reason.
- Two-finger panning keeps the sub-sample remainder, so slow motion still
moves at the closest zoom; the scrollbar drag pans the same way (its range
now takes in the view, so the thumb stays in the bar), and the rulers pan
too. Panning stays open-ended to the right, as before.
- A swipe keeps to the axis it starts along, so panning doesn't drift between
tracks and scrolling doesn't drift in time. The larger share of its first
6 points decides until egui reports the scroll over: the fingers lift, or
150 ms pass without wheel events.
- The MIDI editor scrolls by the point instead of rounding each frame's delta
to whole rows (slow swipes did nothing), and its range fits the panel
(pitch 0 could not be reached; a taller panel showed blank rows).
- Zoom and scroll write through `Engine::zoom_mut` (`view` commands): no
playback resync (a session copy sent to the audio thread every frame), no
copy of the whole session per frame, no journal entry per frame, and no
end to an undo gesture (scrolling during an automation pass made each
write its own undo step). New `view.zoom_by {factor, x?}`;
`view.scroll` saturates; Fill Window and Zoom to Selection stay within the
zoom range (zooming out after them on a long session zoomed in).
- Control channel: `ui.scroll` (trackpad swipe or wheel notches) and
`ui.zoom` (pinch); `session.inspect` reports zoom.
- release.yml: new linux-riscv64 job, cross-compiled on ubuntu-24.04 against ports.ubuntu.com
riscv64 libs (the linux job's -dev packages incl. libasound2-dev:riscv64), CLI smoke-tested
under qemu-riscv64; wired into the release job's needs so SHA256SUMS covers it.
- packaging/linux/package.sh: CROSS_ARCH/CROSS_TARGET/CROSS_COMPILE/EMULATOR support.
- clap-host: c_char -> u8 without a cast that is a no-op (clippy error) where c_char is u8.
- Version 0.4.0 -> 0.5.0; docs list the riscv64 tarball.

* Progress docs to the craftrules standard; full re-measure against Pro Tools 2026.4.1
Stage: alpha. Menu breadth 482/512 (94.1%, measured), feature breadth ~70%,
ready for real work ~40%; ~350-570 agent-hours to beta, ~950-1,450 to full parity,
calibrated on this repo's PR history.
- ROADMAP.md rewritten: stage banner, two numbers, dimension/feature/language tables
- docs/target-app-parity.md: authoritative assessment (area table moved from ROADMAP)
- docs/gaps.md: 22 ranked gaps with evidence and estimates
- docs/roadmap.md: milestones, current focus, beta plan
- docs/ui-, file-format-, hardware-, plugin-, localization-parity.md: new checklists
- docs/parity.md -> docs/parity-checklist.md (generated by cargo xtask parity)
- architecture.md: video, vst3-host, au-host crates; device I/O limits

* Stage: pre-alpha under the core-workflow gate
Add the alpha gate to docs/roadmap.md: interface recording at a chosen buffer
size, MIDI recording, and session interchange with Pro Tools fail, so the stage
moves from alpha to pre-alpha (~5 points and ~110-180 agent-hours to alpha).
Mark the alpha blockers in docs/gaps.md; update ROADMAP.md, target-app-parity.md
and README.

* Add mainstream-practitioner and essentials-user readiness numbers
Mainstream practitioner ~36% (weekly-area depth 50.6% x 0.90 interaction x 0.92
stability x 0.85 file exchange) and essentials user ~57% (core-feature depth
72.4% x 0.90 launch/stability x 0.90 discoverability x 0.97 files), with written
weights, discounts and GitHub user evidence. Full ready-for-real-work checked
against its written dimension weights (40.6%); unchanged at ~40%, stage unchanged.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>
* Readiness by audience: hours to ~95% for full, mainstream and essentials
Full ~40% / 950-1,450 h, mainstream ~36% / 380-600 h, essentials ~57% / 110-200 h,
calibrated on this repo's PR history. The full number is already an additive
weighted sum over the written dimension table; method unchanged.

A third built-in instrument next to Subtractive Synth and Drum Synth. It plays one
sample across the keyboard: root note, transpose and fine tune, key tracking, key and
velocity ranges, amp ADSR with velocity sensitivity, sample start, forward or ping-pong
loops, gate or one-shot playback, 32 voices with cubic interpolation. The sample's own
rate is converted as it plays.
- dsp: `Plugin::set_sample` and the `SampleSource` trait hand an instrument shared
audio without copying; the Adsr from the synth is reused.
- model: `Insert::sample` names the session source the sampler plays.
- mix: sync hands the pool audio to the instrument when it changes, and built-in
instruments now get their parameter values applied (they always ran on defaults).
- engine: `mix.sampler_load {track?, path, params?}` decodes WAV, AIFF, FLAC, MP3, OGG
(anything file.import_audio reads) into a session source, resampled to the session
rate and saved in Audio Files with the session; `mix.sampler_clear`; and
`mix.instrument_param {track?, param, value}` for any built-in instrument.
Tests generate their audio in code; no bundled assets.
The window checks every playlist, including inactive takes, for missing audio, rate mismatches, empty buffers, and clips that extend past their source.
eframe's default wgpu instance enables PRIMARY | GL on Windows. Creating
the OpenGL backend can crash inside AMD's atio6axx.dll before the window
appears, so the app exits silently at launch. When WGPU_BACKEND is not
set, the Windows instance now enables only DirectX 12; an explicit
WGPU_BACKEND is still honoured. macOS, Linux and web are unchanged.
Same fix as storytold/designcraft#168 and storytold/filmcraft#179.

- AppImages embed gh-releases-zsync update information and ship a .zsync beside them.
- New flatpak job repackages the Linux tarball into soundcraft-<v>-linux-<arch>.flatpak
(bundle manifest + flatpak-bundle.sh). Sandbox: pulseaudio socket (PipeWire's pulse server),
~/.vst3 and ~/.clap read-only, the LinuxAudio.Plugins extension point via VST3_PATH/CLAP_PATH;
no raw ALSA devices, no JACK. The from-source Flathub manifest gets the same finish-args.
- Only signing jobs (macOS, Windows) and the draft job keep `environment: release`, so a branch
dispatch dry-runs Linux, Flatpak, FreeBSD and web; the draft job still needs the signed jobs.
- README: Downloads section; docs/releasing.md updated.

The desktop app installed no logger, so every log::warn!/log::error! in
the workspace was discarded: the engine's panic report, audio devices
that failed to open or broke, plugins that refused their stored state or
failed to activate, CLAP plugins' own log messages, files that failed to
open. A launch from a desktop menu has no terminal either, so there was
nothing to attach to a bug report.
apps/soundcraft/src/logging.rs (no new dependency):
- standard error plus <settings dir>/logs/soundcraft.log (beside
ui.json, Autosave/ and Presets/); each launch rotates the previous log
to soundcraft.1.log and .2.log, so the log of a run that crashed
survives the next start; the file is capped at 16 MiB
- records logged before the settings directory is known are buffered
(bounded) and written once the file is attached
- default levels: info for soundcraft*, warn for everything else;
RUST_LOG replaces them with env_logger-style directives
- never panics: an unusable directory or a failed write leaves standard
error as the only sink; a poisoned lock is tolerated
- runs with SOUNDCRAFT_NO_PREFS (agents' test runs) log to standard
error only, so they don't rotate away the user's own logs
Realtime audio: a record takes a lock and does I/O, which the audio
callback must never do, yet code on the audio thread logs (the cpal
error callbacks, the synth's full event queue, a hosted plugin's failed
process, a CLAP plugin calling the host's log, the panic hook). The cpal
callbacks now mark their thread (soundcraft_mix::mark_audio_thread,
re-exported by soundcraft_playback), and the mix engine carries the mark
into the rayon workers that render strips for it. A record from a marked
thread is not written there: the first is kept in a fixed buffer
(try_lock, no allocation, never waits), the rest are counted, and the UI
thread writes them every frame (any other thread before its own next
record).
The logger is installed first in main (before the engine's panic hook)
and the file is opened after argument parsing (--version leaves no
file). The settings directory moves out of prefs_path into config_dir.
The control server's eprintln!s go through the logger (the
SOUNDCRAFT_CONTROL_PORT line on standard output stays). Documented in
README.md (Getting started > Logs) and docs/architecture.md (Audio).
